One of the joys of mobile computing on a netbook is the long battery life.  When I bought my NC10 I was rather impressed with the 4-5 hours that it gave me but now it seems that the newest model on the block  is going to offer a whole lot more.

N230 Battery Power

The Samsung N230 will be available with a 66Wh battery that comes with a 13.8 hour battery life claim.  Of course real world computing might not reflect this but rest assured this is a competition beating run time!

This new model might not have presented any processing advances but the increase in battery life is going to appeal to many potential buyers.

Multiple Versions of the N230?

The exact packaging of this new model isn’t exactly clear, but it seems that there will be at least two versions to look out for:

1.66GHz N450 vs the very slightly quicker 1.83GHz N470 processor160GB HD vs 250GB66Wh battery (13hrs).

It looks like there will be two variations of this model, I haven’t found official confirmation myself, but it looks like we can expect a slightly slimmer, lighter version with a 7hr battery life.

And contrary to initial rumours of a “slim” tag it now seems this model will be known as the N230 Storm.

The Edition

The Storm N230 netbook reportedly delivers 7hrs of run time from a 3 cell battery.  Why is this significant?  It means that the netbook is a teeny tiny 2.3cm tall and just over 1kg in weight.

In my opinion this model doesn’t look quite so cool with the shiny black end compared to the super smart matt effect of the original.

But that aside, this new model looks like it has all the right ingredients to become a fantastic super slim lightweight model with a decent battey life.

The N230 Storm specification is as follows:250GB HDD10.1-inch LED show (1024×1024).

No sooner than we mention the US availability than the Samsung N230 appears on the Amazon.co.uk website.

The release date for this new model is listed as August 7 2010, less than a month to wait!  Place your order now to be one of the first to own the newest model in the Sammy range!

Samsung N230 Pre-order

The model listed is the NP-N230-JA02UK edition, which, according to the Samsung website is the the 13hr battery model.   Of course, if in doubt, please check with your supplier before buy as the specification of the N230 will vary depending on the precise model number.

Judging by traffic to this site, and the number of visitors from the US, I had been under the impression that Samsung’s early netbook success was slipping.  But a recent report compiled by iSuppli suggests otherwise.

According to figures compiled by Digitimes.com Samsung shifted 1.9 million mobile PCs in the first quarter of this year and about 50% of these were netbooks.

In the US, Samsung managed to displace both Sony and Apple in the sales rankings to reach the number seven spot.

Here’s hoping that the new Samsung N230 can help build on that early positive start – the more netbooks they sell the more potential SammyNetbook.com members we have!

I have to agree with Matt’s suggestion that this isn’t something you’d desperately want to add your shopping list, I would imagine many netbook owners choosing to use free anti virus alternatives (such as Avast, AVG or MSE), free Office suites (such as Open Office or Google Docs) and preferring to chose from the massive range of sleeves that are available.

But, the bundle is what it is and if the three products appeal to you then it is available to buy from Amazon.co.uk here.  There is no equivalent currently available at Amazon.com
